On Tuesday, a Delhi court threw out a criminal defamation suit BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar filed against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Headed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal, the court found that the complaint did not have enough cause for defamation and refused to provide Tharoor with summons.
In April 2024, Chandrasekhar had charged Tharoor of defamatory remarks against him and falsely claiming he had given cash to voters during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Chandrasekhar petitioned a court order prohibiting more defamatory comments, a public apology, and for ₹10 crore in reimbursement for the damage done to his good name.
In a connected issue, the Delhi High Court called Tharoor in a different defamation case whereby Chandrasekhar has once more requested ₹10 crore in losses for the supposed defamation to his reputation. The following hearing is set for 28 April 2025 by the High Court.
