Authorities have significantly strengthened security across Delhi, particularly in central and eastern parts, ahead of the visit of United States Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, and their three children. The high-profile delegation is scheduled to arrive on Monday morning.

Arrival and itinerary details

According to police officials, the Vance family will land at the Palam airbase around 10am for a four-day visit to India. Their Delhi stay includes accommodation at a luxury hotel in the Chanakyapuri area, a visit to Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, cultural tours within the capital, and a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The visit will include a formal dinner with the PM. Later that night, the family will head to Jaipur and Agra as part of their extended trip.

Mock drills and deployment

A senior police officer confirmed, “We have already conducted mock drills according to the security protocol for the high-level visit of the US Vice President. Security has been tightened across different areas of Delhi to ensure that everything goes smoothly, and no untoward incident happens during their visit.”

Delhi Police and other specialised armed forces will be stationed at critical locations, including around the Palam airbase and along the routes that the US Vice President’s motorcade will travel.

Traffic restrictions across the capital

Traffic Police issued an advisory warning of movement restrictions in several key areas from 9am to 9pm. Affected roads include Sardar Patel Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Dhaula Kuan flyover, NH-48, Cariappa Marg, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Sikandra Road, Vikas Marg, Janpath Road, Tolstoy Road, and the Noida Link Road.

“To access 11 Murti Marg, commuters should use Vande Mataram Marg from Dhaula Kuan flyover to Shankar Road roundabout, then Talkatora Road, and Sheikh Mujib-Ur-Rehman Marg,” the advisory stated. “Those travelling to or from the IGI Airport may take Rao Tula Ram Marg for uninterrupted movement.”

Security at cultural sites

Police teams also conducted advance security checks at the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, which the Vice President is expected to visit on Monday evening.

“We have conducted advance security liaisoning at the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple, which the US Vice President will visit on Monday evening. We have thoroughly checked the premises, and our teams will be deployed on the day of the visit too,” an officer confirmed.

As India rolls out the red carpet for JD Vance and his family, security officials remain on high alert to ensure their safety and smooth passage through the capital.
