Delhi Airport Makes Travel Advisory Amid Farmers’ Protest

The Delhi airport issued an advisory to passengers on Monday in preparation for the ‘Dehi Chalo’ march at Delhi’s borders on February 13.

It added, “We recommend planning your trip accordingly and staying informed about potential delays and alternative routes.”

The airport proposed passengers to utilize the Delhi Metro for transportation. It said, “To ensure timely arrival, we strongly encourage travellers to utilise the Magenta Line for Terminal 1 (T1) or the airport metro for Terminal 3 (T3) for convenient transportation options.”

Commuters suffered traffic jams as vehicles were struck at the Ghazipur and Delhi-Noida Chilla borders as a result of the farmers’ protest.
In preparation for the anticipated farmer’s protest, Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic alert on Monday, informing commuters that there will be diversions near the Singhu Border (Delhi-Haryana).

“Traffic restrictions and diversions will be imposed at Singhu Border from February 12 for commercial vehicles and from February 13 for all types of vehicles,” the advisory said.

Farmers are protesting their demands, which include a law requiring a minimum support price for agricultural produce and a debt relief.
The protests take place shortly ahead of the Lok Sabah elections, which are scheduled for May-April this year.
Massive security procedures have been put in place around the national capital. To maintain law and order, Delhi police have already implemented Section 144, which prohibits the entry of tractor trolleys and huge gatherings.

According to the police, a strong force of around 2000 people, including CAPF, Crime Branch personnel, and battalions, keeping surveillance to ensure law and order and resolve any unpleasant situations.
Meanwhile, the meeting between agricultural union officials and the administration ended in a stalemate, with no agreement in sight.

The team that met with farmer leaders included Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda. Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal was also there.
During the discussion, Union Minister Arjun Munda stated that he remained optimistic about a settlement and that the Centre wishes to reach a resolution through dialogue.

Speaking to reporters after a new round of discussions with protesting farmer representatives, the Union Minister stated that, while no breakthrough was achieved, a broad understanding was reached on the majority of the topics of concern.
The Delhi Police has encouraged residents to cooperate with and support law enforcement officers in order to keep the city safe.
