Delhi Airport Issues Advisory Amid High Alert; 32 Airports Shut Over Security Threats

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport resumed normal operations early Saturday. This comes as India increases security measures due to rising tensions with Pakistan.

Airport Issues Travel Advisory

Authorities at the Delhi airport released a new travel advisory. They confirmed that operations are running as usual but warned about possible delays. The advisory stated, “Delhi Airport operations are normal at present. However, due to changing airspace conditions and increased security measures as per orders from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, some flight schedules might be impacted, and security checkpoint processing times could be longer.”

Passengers Asked to Follow Guidelines

The airport advised all travellers to stay alert. The key guidelines include:

  • Check flight updates directly from airlines.

  • Follow all rules for hand baggage and check-in luggage.

  • Reach the airport early in case of long queues at security.

  • Cooperate with airport and airline staff.

  • Use official sources for accurate flight information.

The advisory added, “We encourage all passengers to rely on official sources for accurate information and avoid sharing unverified content.”

32 Airports Temporarily Closed

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and aviation bodies have announced a major shutdown. They issued Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), halting civil flights at 32 airports in northern and western India. The suspension will last from May 9 to May 14, 2025, ending at 5:29 AM IST on May 15, 2025.

These airports include:

Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.

Drone Activity Raises Concern

On Friday, Indian defence sources confirmed drone sightings at 26 places along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).
The drones were spotted from Baramulla in the north to Bhuj in the south. Authorities believe these drones are armed and could target both civilians and military areas.

High Alert in Sensitive Zones

The locations where drones were seen include: Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala. Security forces remain on high alert. Surveillance and counter-drone operations continue as India responds to these emerging threats.
