Death toll rises to 2 in Jabalpur blast ; NSG begins investigation

National Security Guard (NSG) team has commenced an investigation into the Jabalpur blast incident, which resulted in fatalities, as confirmed by a police official on Saturday.

The explosion occurred in a scrapyard near the Khajri Khiriya bypass, falling under the jurisdiction of the Adhartal police station in Jabalpur district, around 12 pm on Thursday, April 25. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police and fire tenders rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Subsequently, on Friday, the district administration demolished the illegal constructions of the scrapyard owner, situated in Anand Nagar in the city.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sonakshi Saxena informed ANI, “A team from NSG has arrived to investigate the blast incident that occurred here on April 25. They are examining the incident with their expertise to determine the cause and nature of the explosion. The police team is collaborating with the NSG team, and further action will be taken based on the facts and findings from the investigation.”

As of now, two individuals have been confirmed dead in the blast, and an FIR has been lodged against the person in charge, namely the owner of the scrapyard, Shamim Rza. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, added the officer.

Earlier on Friday, ASP Sonali Dubey informed reporters, “The police are probing the blast that occurred on April 25 in Jabalpur. On April 26, encroachments related to the blast were removed in the city, and further details can be provided by the revenue department… This is a significant investigation. We need to ascertain the reasons behind this incident and take measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
