COP OPENS FIRE BEFORE KILLING HIMSELF IN KOLKATA

In a shocking incident a pedestrian was shot dead by a policeman in charge of security at the Bangladesh High Commission. The policeman committed suicide after the murder. The incident caused a stir in the Park Circus in Kolkata. The incident took place in front of Bangladesh High Commission in Benia Pukur police station area of Kolkata. Three people were killed in the incident.

The security guard was working at the outpost of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Park Circus Seven Point area of Kolkata. Witnesses claim that the policeman fired randomly with his service rifle at noon. At that time, a woman was riding an online bike cab through the area. The middle-aged woman was shot in the back by the policeman. Witnesses said a biker was also shot. The security guard then shot himself in the neck with his rifle.

According to police sources, the security guard belonged to the 5th Battalion of the Kolkata Police Arm force. Chandu Lepcha is a resident of North East. He was on leave for several days. The policeman was reported to be depressed even before going on leave. On Friday, the security guard joined the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission outpost in the morning. The Additional Commissioner of Calcutta Police said he fired 15 rounds with his ASLR rifle. Kolkata police have started an investigation into what happened. The CCTV footage of that time and the information of the mobile phone of the deceased policeman are being examined.

Meanwhile, due to protest against Nupur Sharma’s remarks, a gathering was held at Parkcircus premises since morning. A shooting took place just 50 meters away from the Bangladesh High Commission on Friday afternoon. After the incident, unrest was spread in the area. However, police said there was no connection between the two incidents. Due to the protests on the one hand, and the unrest of the shootings on the other – the Parkcircus Seven Point crossing was blocked.
