The Congress on Friday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reported intention to meet only NDA chief Ministers next week as an effort by the ruling BJP to draw “political mileage” from India’s military action under Operation Sindoor.
Jairam Ramesh Questions BJP’s Intentions
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asked on X, “The PM has called for a meeting of ONLY NDA Chief Ministers on May 25th to take political mileage from Operation Sindoor. But he now wants MPs from all parties to go abroad as a delegation for explaining India’s stance on terrorism from Pakistan.”
Congress Alleges Double Standards
The opposition party stated that it “definitely” would be a part of international delegations but queried the BJP’s “double standards” by noting that PM Modi won’t be meeting Congress chief ministers on Operation Sindoor.
The prime minister and the BJP have been constantly defaming the Congress, said Ramesh, even as it demanded unity and solidarity between parties when India launched military action against Pakistan.
“The Prime Minister has not agreed to call a special session of Parliament that the Indian National Congress has been demanding to demonstrate a collective will and reiterate the resolution passed unanimously by Parliament on February 22, 1994,” the Congress general secretary said.
Congress to Join Delegations Despite Criticism
“Now suddenly the PM has decided to send multi-party delegations abroad to explain India’s stand on terrorism from Pakistan. The Indian National Congress always takes a position in the supreme national interest and never politicises national security issues like the BJP does. Hence, the INC will definitely be a part of these delegations,” he added.
India Launches Diplomatic Outreach Against Terrorism
From next week, the NDA government has scheduled to despatch a number of all-party delegations to a number of countries in a large-scale diplomatic offensive to target Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and bring attention to India’s military operation under Operation Sindoor.
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is one of the important figures who will be part of one of these delegations. The government has approached MPs from different political parties, including opposition parties, and some parties have also approved their members’ participation in the diplomatic exercise.
