Congress MP Jairam Ramesh expressed confidence in the Congress’s list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, describing it as “strong.” He emphasized that it was just the first list and that more lists would follow, as the party follows a specific procedure unlike the BJP. Ramesh criticized the BJP’s process, stating, “We release lists according to a set procedure, unlike the BJP where two people decide.”
Regarding recent changes in BJP’s candidate selection, Ramesh mentioned the case of popular Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, who withdrew his candidature from West Bengal’s Asansol. Singh, a day after being named the BJP’s candidate, announced his withdrawal from the contest “due to some reason.”
The Congress recently released its first list of 39 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, prioritizing winning the maximum number of seats. The list includes candidates for seats in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura. Rahul Gandhi will contest again from the Wayanad constituency, which he won in 2019.
The list of 39 candidates was announced after the party’s Central Election Committee meeting.
