New Delhi, July 22: Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad on Monday in Parliament demanded ‘classical language status’ for Marathi.
Gaikwad, who is a Congress MP from Mumbai’s North Central demanded for classical language status to Marathi language in the Lok Sabha session.
She raised her voice for ‘my Marathi language’ which means ‘Amritatehi paija winke’, ‘Labhale Amhas Bhagya Bolto Marathi, Jahlo Khach Dhaniya Eketo Marathi”
She said, “During the Congress government in the state, the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan submitted an expert report to the Center on July 11, 2014, which gave strong evidence of the rich history of Marathi, to declare ‘My Marathi’ as a classical language. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government taking revenge on Maharashtra on this report did not take any decision in the last ten years.”
“In the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Maharashtra took notice of BJP’s hatred towards the Marathi language and Maharashtra, and taught them a good lesson” she added.
