On Sunday, at Shakti Sthal in the nation’s capital, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallaikarjun Kharge, and KC Venugopal presented flowers to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in honor of her 105th birthday. The Congress president claimed that Indira Gandhi demonstrated “skillful leadership and sacrificed everything for the country” in a post made from his official X account.
“Forgiveness is the virtue of the brave: Indira Gandhi. Our humble tribute to India’s first woman Prime Minister and our icon, Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary,”Kharge posted.
“In preserving the unity and integrity of India and making our country strong and progressive, she consistently displayed skilful leadership, true loyalty and strong willpower for India and sacrificed everything for the country,” the Congress national president added in his post.
“Here life, dedicated duty to the country and her indomitable courage will always inspire millions of Indians,” Kharge added.
Indira Gandhi, who was born on November 19, 1917, became the third Prime Minister of India in 1966 and 1977, and again in 1980 until her assassination on October 31, 1984. Her influence on national politics was profound. As the leader of the Congress, she became a pivotal figure in Indian politics and became the first and so far only female prime minister of the nation. Rajiv Gandhi, the son of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India, succeeded his mother Indira in the top position. After her father, she served as PM for a total of 15 years and 350 days, making her the second-longest serving PM.
