The Congress party on Thursday dismissed reports suggesting Kamal Nath’s resignation as the president of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit. This clarification followed widespread media coverage stating that Nath had stepped down after the party’s significant loss in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly polls.
A post on X by the party’s state unit stated, “The news regarding the resignation of State Congress President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath is completely false and baseless.” The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee explicitly denied these rumors.
Earlier in the week, there were speculations that Nath would meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to submit his resignation. According to PTI sources, the Congress leadership was displeased with Nath, particularly regarding his comments against leaders from the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, such as Akhilesh Yadav and Nitish Kumar, related to seat sharing.
Reports also suggested dissatisfaction with Nath for not engaging with party leaders and workers but holding a meeting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday, as per PTI. Despite Congress’ aspirations for a decisive victory, the party faced a setback in Madhya Pradesh, with the Bharatiya Janata Party securing 163 out of 230 seats in the Legislative Assembly, while Congress was limited to 66 seats.
