A tragic accident occurred today when several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express (train number 15904) derailed near Pikaura, located between Gonda and Jhilahi in Uttar Pradesh. The derailment resulted in the death of one passenger and injuries to two others. Four of the 12 derailed coaches were AC compartments, coming off the tracks just a few kilometers before the Jhilahi railway station.
A rescue team was promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct relief operations. Some passengers were injured, with visuals showing them standing beside the tracks with their luggage. Videos from the site revealed passengers retrieving their belongings from the derailed coaches, with one coach completely overturned.
A passenger onboard remarked, “I had a close shave, glad to be safe. Don’t worry I am fine.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been briefed on the situation, and authorities are closely monitoring the aftermath. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered immediate deployment of officials to the site and expedited relief operations, ensuring timely treatment for the injured.
