Centre Selects TV Somanathan, 1987 IAS Officer, As New Cabinet Secretary

On Saturday, the Narendra Modi government appointed TV Somanathan, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as Cabinet Secretary for a two-year term. He takes over from Rajiv Gauba, a 1982 batch IAS officer who served an unprecedented five-year term.

A statement from the Appointments Committee of Cabinet confirmed, “The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has also approved the appointment of Shri TV Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as officer on special duty in the cabinet secretariat from the date he joins the assignment till he takes over as the cabinet secretary.
