Centre Informs Delhi HC About A Minor Girl Admitted In AIIMS For Abortion

The Centre on Wednesday informed Delhi High Court that a 14-year-old has admitted to AIIMS for terminating pregnancy at about four months following consensual sex between teens.

The matter will be heard on 23 January. Judge Prathiba M Singh was enlightened by the counsel for the central government that according to the medical board, the minor admitted at the All India Institue of Medical Sciences was regulated the medication. The advice additionally positioned the report of the medical Board before the seat.

The youngster had moved toward the high court through her mom looking for clinical abortion as she is minor and unmarried.
The pregnancy being referred to emerged out of consensual sexual activity between the minor girl and a minor kid.
The mother of the young lady moved a request through advocate Amit Mishra looking for the end of the pregnancy without informing the neighborhood police.

It is presented that the young lady is a minor and the kid is in close connection with the family. However reporting the matter is required to the nearby police under the POCSO Act, this would bring social disgrace, segregation, and harassment to the minor as well as to the whole family.
The plea said that the young girl is not ready to proceed with the pregnancy as she isn’t arranged physically and mentally to bring up a kid.

It is also said that continuing with the pregnancy would make colossal injury to her physical and psychological well-being. It is implored to grant the candidate to abort the pregnancy at any Administration Medical clinic and explicitly at AIIMS.

It is submitted that the MTP Act permits for termination of pregnancy of up to 20 weeks if the registered medical practitioner believes that the continuation of the pregnancy would cause risk to the woman’s life or grave injury to her physical and mental health. As per the ultrasound report of 6 January , 2023, the gestation, in this case, is of 15 weeks and 4 days, the petition stated.
