Capt Amarinder Singh Accuses PM Justin Trudeau of Promoting Khalistani Propaganda

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of damaging the relationship between India and Canada, alleging that he is promoting Khalistani propaganda to secure Sikh votes ahead of upcoming elections. Singh made these statements in an interview with ANI, emphasizing that Trudeau’s actions are detrimental to bilateral ties.

“Canadian PM Trudeau has ruined the relationship between India and Canada. He is interested in only one thing: getting the Sikh votes for his own election. He doesn’t care what happens; he has done this earlier also,” Singh stated.

Concerns Over Khalistani Support

Singh expressed concerns that Trudeau’s actions are aimed at attracting Sikh voters, especially with elections approaching. “This is something that is not acceptable. When I was in government, I refused to meet the Canadian defense minister during his visit to India,” he remarked, referencing the ongoing diplomatic tensions.

The relationship between the two countries has soured significantly since Trudeau alleged in the Canadian Parliament that there were “credible allegations” of Indian government involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has categorically denied these claims, calling them “absurd” and “motivated,” while accusing Canada of harboring extremist elements.

Trudeau Faces Internal Pressure

Amid the diplomatic row, Trudeau is reportedly facing calls for resignation from within his own Liberal Party. A closed-door meeting of dissenting MPs highlighted growing discontent with his leadership, as they presented an ultimatum for him to decide his future by October 28.

Despite the pressure, Trudeau affirmed that he would lead his party into the next election, rejecting requests from some party members not to run for a fourth term. He acknowledged ongoing discussions about the party’s direction but insisted, “That will happen with me as a leader going into the next election.”

No Canadian prime minister has won four consecutive terms in over a century, raising further questions about Trudeau’s political future.
