BSF Director General And Deputy Removed ‘With Immediate Effect’

The Central Government on Friday removed BSF Director General (DG) Nitin Agrawal and his deputy, Special DG (West) Y B Khurania, from their positions, ordering their immediate return to their respective state cadres.

Nitin Agrawal, a 1989-batch officer from the Kerala cadre, had been leading the Border Security Force since June last year. His deputy, Y B Khurania, from the 1990-batch of the Odisha cadre, was responsible for overseeing operations along the Pakistan border in his role as Special DG (West).

According to separate orders issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), both Agrawal and Khurania were “prematurely” repatriated with immediate effect. The reasons for this sudden decision have not been disclosed.

The BSF, comprising approximately 2.65 lakh personnel, is tasked with guarding India’s borders with Pakistan to the west and Bangladesh to the east. This significant reshuffle in the top leadership of the BSF comes as a notable development, with both officers now set to return to their home states to continue their service.

The government’s decision to reassign these senior officers is likely to spark discussions and speculations about the future leadership and strategic direction of the BSF.
