Two individuals have been arrested after a dead body was discovered in a bag at Dadar railway station in Mumbai. The suspects, Jai Praveen Chavda and Shivjeet Surendra Singh, were apprehended by Mumbai Police after carrying the body in a suitcase on a train following the murder.
The incident came to light early Monday morning during a routine luggage-checking operation conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP). Upon discovering the body inside a suitcase, authorities initiated an interrogation, which revealed that the murder took place in the jurisdiction of Pydhonie Police Station.
The police investigation uncovered that the murder stemmed from a dispute between the victim, Arshad Ali Sheikh, and the accused over a female friend. The victim, a resident of Santacruz, was deaf-mute, as were both suspects. The suspects communicated using sign language, and the police enlisted a sign language expert to assist in the interrogation.
The primary suspect, Chavda, had a fight with the victim over their mutual female friend. Sheikh was invited to Chavda’s house for a party, during which the dispute escalated, resulting in Sheikh’s murder. The body was then wrapped in plastic and packed into a suitcase. On Sunday night, the suspects planned to travel by Tutari Express train to dispose of the body.
The Dadar Railway Police registered a case and managed to arrest one suspect at the railway station. The other suspect initially escaped but was later apprehended in Ulhasnagar. This case highlights the critical role of coordination between various law enforcement agencies in solving complex crimes.
