After its sweeping election win, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is now quickly preparing to form the next government in Bihar. The political focus has shifted from the campaign trail to the negotiation table, with key allies meeting to decide the shape of the new administration before the current assembly's term ends.
The tenure of the present Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to end on November 22. This date creates a constitutional deadline for the new government to be sworn in. The NDA alliance, which includes the BJP, JD(U), and several smaller parties, is working with this deadline in mind. Union Minister Chirag Paswan has explicitly stated that the new government "will be formed before 22nd November," confirming the alliance's intention to ensure a smooth transition of power.

As a key NDA partner whose Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, Chirag Paswan has been actively involved in the post-poll discussions. After a "cordial and constructive" meeting with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Paswan shared a significant update. He stated that the "blueprint" for the government formation would be ready "by today or tomorrow." He also mentioned plans to consult with senior Union Ministers, indicating that the final decisions involve coordination with the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The NDA’s sweeping win of 202 out of 243 seats was a team effort. The BJP led with 89 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) bounced back strongly with 85. The alliance also gained from Chirag Paswan’s LJP(RV) with 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) with 5, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha with 4. The focus now is on how these partners will divide cabinet posts and whether Nitish Kumar will be sworn in for a record tenth term as Chief Minister.
According to sources, the formal government formation process will begin in the next two to three days. This timeline allows all the newly elected MLAs from various constituencies to arrive in the state capital, Patna. Before the swearing-in ceremony can be scheduled, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to formally submit his resignation, paving the way for the new government to take charge just as the current assembly term concludes.
