The BJP is set to announce Delhi’s new Chief Minister on February 19, following a party legislature meeting, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for February 20, sources told India Today TV.

Out of the 48 BJP legislators who emerged victorious in the Delhi Assembly elections, 15 candidates have been shortlisted. Among them, nine will be chosen for key positions, including the Chief Minister, state cabinet ministers, and the Speaker.

The BJP secured 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, marking its return to power after a 27-year gap. In contrast, AAP won only 22 seats, with prominent leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bharadwaj losing their constituencies.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s return from the US, the BJP, which had refrained from announcing a Chief Ministerial candidate before the election, has conducted high-profile meetings to finalize a leader from the list of potential candidates.

Parvesh Verma, often hailed as the “giant killer” after his victory against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in the fiercely contested New Delhi seat, has emerged as the frontrunner.

Asked by India Today News Director Rahul Kanwal about his chances of becoming Delhi’s next Chief Minister, Verma stated, “I’m a spiritual man. So I don’t get too happy and I don’t get too sad either. Whatever the party high command decides, I’ll accept that happily.”
