Anupam Hazra, the former Trinamool Congress MP who joined the BJP and currently serves as the National General Secretary of the party, has extended an invitation to tainted TMC leaders to join the BJP. This move has stirred up concerns within the TMC ranks in West Bengal. During a public meeting in Birbhum, Hazra, who is the sole representative of the State in BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda’s team, stated that Trinamool Congress leaders who “are apprehensive of potential ED and CBI investigations” are welcome to reach out to the party. The BJP will then consider how to “best utilise them.”
He requested such Trinamool Congress members to contact him, mentioning that his Facebook newsfeed included a number that these leaders could call. Additionally, he asserted that the BJP is the sole party capable of offering a clean and honest alternative to the TMC.
Hazra revealed that he has been approached by numerous TMC leaders expressing their interest in joining the BJP. He affirmed his willingness to assist them in any way possible. Hazra’s invitation is perceived as a challenge to the TMC’s leadership. The TMC has faced allegations of corruption and cronyism, and Hazra’s move is likely to further intensify the pressure on the party.
