Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam MLA Hemanga Thakuria expressed confidence on Sunday that the BJP and its allies will secure victory in all five seats in the upcoming by-elections.
“We are very much confident that BJP and its ally parties will win all five seats. The people of the state have trusted the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who works for the development of the people,” said Thakuria.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that out of the five seats where the by-elections are scheduled, the BJP will contest in three seats. Its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), will contest in Bongaigaon and Sidli, respectively.
Discussing the upcoming Panchayat polls in Assam, Thakuria added that the BJP and its allies are poised to perform well in these elections.
Earlier, Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita confirmed that the party would field candidates for the two Rajya Sabha seats up for election from Assam. “We will field two party candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. Other NDA partners will support us in securing both seats,” said Kalita.
The comments were made following a crucial two-day meeting of BJP leaders from the northeastern region held in Guwahati on August 10-11. The meeting focused on strategies for the Panchayat and Rajya Sabha elections.
In a related development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah not to disrupt the investment environment in the state after “bomb-like substances” were seized from eight locations. The banned ULFA (I) had claimed responsibility, stating it planted 24 bombs across Assam.
