BJP Leader Raises Alarm Over Arms Recovery in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali

Sukanta Majumdar, the chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, has raised concerns following the recent seizure of a significant cache of arms and ammunition by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Sandeshkhali. Majumdar said that the riverine island is “heading towards a dangerous phase.”

Expressing worry over the escalating situation in the riverine island, Majumdar highlighted previous controversies involving cases of rape and drug trafficking. He suggested that the recovered arms, including foreign-made pistols and revolvers, could have been smuggled into the country.

Majumdar called for a thorough investigation by security agencies, questioning the reasons behind the presence of such a large quantity of arms in Sandeshkhali.

Additionally, he criticized the West Bengal Police for perceived shortcomings in professionalism, courage, and resources. Notably, the weapons were found at the residence of a relative of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) member, prompting Majumdar to urge authorities to question individuals associated with the area.

Despite these concerns, Majumdar noted the peaceful conduct of the second phase of elections in West Bengal, expressing hope for continued tranquility during the remaining hours of voting.
