BJP Claims Sonia Gandhi Linked to George Soros-Funded Group

The BJP has alleged that Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president, is connected to a group funded by the George Soros Foundation. This new claim comes just days after the party accused the US “deep state” of collaborating with Rahul Gandhi to destabilize India.

The BJP stated that Sonia Gandhi, in her role as co-president of the Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, is linked to an organization financed by Soros’s foundation. The party suggested that this relationship indicates foreign influence in India’s political affairs, particularly highlighting the group’s support for separating Kashmir from India.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey announced he would pose 10 questions to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha regarding this issue. He also accused the media outlet, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and Soros of working with the opposition to damage India’s economy and discredit the Modi government.

The BJP further claimed that the FDL-AP Foundation had supported the idea of Kashmir as a separate entity, and pointed out that Sonia Gandhi’s past association with the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation also involved ties with Soros’s foundation, showcasing foreign funding’s influence on Indian organizations.

Additionally, the BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi for using OCCRP reports, funded by Soros, to attack business tycoon Adani, emphasizing a strong and damaging relationship between the opposition and Soros’s network.

The allegations come after the BJP accused the US “deep state” of attempting to undermine India’s image. The US government denied the accusations, with an embassy spokesperson calling them “disappointing” and reaffirming America’s commitment to media freedom globally.

The BJP’s claims regarding OCCRP’s role in exposing corruption and its association with Soros have intensified tensions, with party officials saying the opposition is trying to suppress their voice in Parliament. The US embassy responded, stating that US-funded organizations like OCCRP work independently and do not influence editorial decisions.

The opposition Congress party has criticized the government’s ties to businessman Gautam Adani, calling for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the bribery allegations involving Adani.
