BJP Central Election Committee Meets In Delhi To Strategize For J-K Polls

To prepare for the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Election Committee met on Sunday at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. Attendees included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda, and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.

In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the PDP won 28 seats, the BJP secured 25 seats, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference claimed 15 seats, and the Congress took 12 seats. This led to a coalition government being formed between the PDP and BJP, with Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as the Chief Minister. However, the BJP ended its support for the coalition in 2018 when Mehbooba Mufti took over the PDP leadership after her father’s death.

The Election Commission of India has announced that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4. These elections will be the first in the region since the repeal of Article 370.
