BJP attacks Rajasthan govt over rising crime, corruption

The BJP on Wednesday slammed Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over the “deteriorating” law and order situation, especially crimes against women, in the state, claiming that every party MLA controls transfers and postings of officers, negating the possibility of action in case of serious incidents.
Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, MP from Rajasthan, and Alka Gurjar, the party’s national secretary, addressed a press conference here to hit out at the Congress government in the poll-bound state. Meghwal alleged that Gehlot has shied away from action due to his politics of appeasement and vote bank.
In one case of gangrape, Gehlot asked the victim to “cover up” in the name of ideology, he alleged. “Gehlot is the main reason for the deteriorating law and order in Rajasthan. He keeps saying that MLAs have saved his government. It makes MLAs supporting him act like chief ministers. They control the transfers and postings of officers in the police and even district collectors. They have become corrupt,” the Union Law Minister charged.
Gurjar said so many cases of crimes against women have been shaming Rajsthan. While the BJP stands for good governance and development, the priority of the Congress is appeasement and vote bank, Meghwal claimed.
BJP state president CP Joshi also flayed the Congress government in Rajasthan, saying the murder of four members of a family in Jodhpur shows the “collapse” of the law and order situation.
The Congress, in its 2018 election manifesto, had said it would bring the Public Accountability Act but did not work on it for four and a half years, he said. “Be it law and order, rising corruption, crime against women and SC/STs, paper leaks, or fulfilling its promise of a complete farm loan waiver and unemployment allowance, the government has failed on its accountability,” Joshi said at a press conference.
He also said that if the BJP is voted to power, the government will dissolve the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and reconstitute it on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to address the issue of paper leaks.
As far as development is concerned, Rajasthan has got 16 percent less direct investment than neighbouring Gujarat, and the state government has not brought any scheme except running the schemes of the Centre, he charged. Joshi also raised the issue of lathicharge against BJYM workers protesting against the Jodhpur gangrape incident.
