BJP appeals to LG for immediate appointment of Scheduled Caste Mayor

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned Arvind Kejriwal’s delay in appointing a Scheduled Caste Mayor in Delhi. They have written to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, demanding both the appointment of a Scheduled Caste Mayor for the Municipal Corporation (MCD) and the formation of the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission.

BJP leaders have claimed that the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act mandates the appointment of a Scheduled Caste Mayor in the third year, but Arvind Kejriwal is obstructing the completion of the mayoral election process due to his alleged anti-women and anti-Dalit behaviour.

According to the rules, the Chief Minister must write to the Lieutenant Governor to initiate the mayoral election process. However, since Kejriwal is in jail and unable to perform his official duties, the process for appointing a Scheduled Caste Mayor has not begun. BJP leaders argue that Kejriwal’s refusal to resign despite being in jail has resulted in no Scheduled Caste councillor being appointed as Mayor in Delhi, even four months into the term.

Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, along with Delhi BJP Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor, expressed regret that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government’s stubbornness is preventing the appointment of a Scheduled Caste Mayor in Delhi. The BJP has condemned this situation. Today, both leaders sent a letter to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Vinai Kumar Saxena, calling for the appointment of a Scheduled Caste Mayor for the Delhi Municipal Corporation and the formation of the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission.

Singh stated that the financial crisis in the MCD is worsening due to the Kejriwal government’s failure to establish the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission. The BJP leaders have called on the Lieutenant Governor to promptly form the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission.
