Bihar Bandh on Sep 4: What’s the Reason Behind NDA’s Protest?

Bihar Bandh September 4 called by NDA to protest derogatory remarks on PM Modi and his late mother in Darbhanga.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced a statewide bandh in Bihar on September 4 and the call comes as a strong protest against abusive remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress-RJD joint event in Darbhanga last week. The BJP, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha have pledged their support. The bandh will last from 7 am to 12 noon, with essential services like hospitals, emergency facilities, and rail operations remaining unaffected. The BJP Mahila Morcha will lead the protest across the state.

NDA Leaders Condemn Objectionable Comments

BJP’s Bihar state president Dilip Jaiswal confirmed the bandh and said that women’s cells of all NDA constituents decided it together. He explained that mothers and sisters across Bihar felt deeply insulted. He added that PM Modi himself continues to work for women’s empowerment and recently provided financial assistance to mothers and daughters in Bihar. Around 20 women personally received his aid during the event.

JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha strongly condemned the incident. He said that abusive language against PM Modi and his late mother was against democratic norms. He argued that political disagreements should never extend to personal attacks on families. He criticised Congress and RJD senior leaders for staying silent and not apologising for the behaviour of their workers.

PM Modi Targets Opposition Leaders

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi took an indirect jibe at Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. He called them "namdaars," or people born with a silver spoon. He said such leaders could never understand the suffering of poor mothers or the struggles of their children. He stressed that power is treated as an inheritance by such dynastic families. He said the insults in Darbhanga showed the arrogance of the opposition leaders.

NDA’s Women Leaders Speak Out

Bharti Mehta, JD(U) women’s cell president, said the incident hurt women especially because it came from Mithilanchal, a land known for respect towards women. She called it humiliating and unacceptable. Raju Tiwari, LJP (RV) state president, claimed that humiliating women had been a tradition of Congress and RJD. Madan Choudhary of RLM also supported the bandh call.

Opposition Response

Meanwhile, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar rejected the charges. He said BJP was using emotional tactics to divert attention before the assembly election. He accused the party of playing the same card earlier in Karnataka and now repeating it in Bihar.
