In a sudden turn of events in Bengaluru, a 29-year-old software engineer lost his life after a small roadside argument turned into a tragic incident. The accused, reportedly furious after the techie denied him a cigarette, crashed his car into the victim’s motorcycle. Police have arrested the accused on charges of murder.

Victim Identified, Accused Arrested

The victim, HN Sanjay, a resident of Vajarahalli, died of head injuries on Tuesday after being knocked down by a car near Vasanthapura Cross on Kanakapura Road. The accused, Prateek, 31, who works as a manager in a private firm and lives in Rajarajeshwari Nagar,

CCTV Footage Confirms Incident

The CCTV camera filmed the ruthless incident when Prateek reportedly ran his car into Sanjay’s bike from the rear. Subramanyapura police have filed a murder case and are further investigating.

Argument Over Cigarette Request Led to the Attack

As reported by police, the attack occurred in the early morning of May 10. Sanjay was hanging out with his coworker Chetan Pujamath, smoking, when Prateek pulled up to them in a car and requested Sanjay get him a cigarette from a street vendor.

Sanjay declined and reportedly criticised Prateek for his “lazy and entitled behaviour,” leading to a heated exchange. Locals intervened and dispersed the altercation. Prateek then left and parked his car a short distance away.

Techie Run Over While Returning to Office

Subsequently, when Sanjay and Chetan were going back to their office on a bike, Prateek reportedly ran his vehicle over them from behind. The accident threw Sanjay off and caused him to knock his head against the ground. He was taken to the hospital but succumbed to injuries.

Chetan Injured, Accused Allegedly Drunk

Chetan, who was on the pillion, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment. Police told that Prateek was drunk at the time and was returning home with his wife from a party.

Ongoing Investigation

The Subramanyapura police are investigating. Officials are probing the motive and confirming the role of alcohol in the chain of events. Latest updates are awaited.
