A 33-year-old woman, Harini, was brutally stabbed to death by her alleged lover, 25-year-old techie Yashas, inside a hotel room in Bengaluru’s Poorna Prajna Layout. The crime was committed late on Friday night but was not reported until two days later.
Both Harini and Yashas were locals of Kengeri, a western suburb of Bengaluru. Harini had recently resolved to disown Yashas, a step that is claimed to have prompted the murder.
“The woman wanted to terminate the friendship and was attempting to keep distance from him. Fueled by rage and jealousy, the man stabbed the woman to death,” stated DCP South Lokesh B Jagalasar.
Sources indicate that Harini, who is a mother of two, was under domestic pressure from the relationship. Her family found out about her affair with Yashas and she was torn between going ahead with the affair or not. This seemed to infuriate the accused, who stabbed her 17 times in a room of an OYO hotel.
The incident has filled people with outrage and alarm at the police over increasing instances of gender-based violence. A complaint has been lodged at Subramanyapura Police Station and Yashas is under police custody.
Man Decapitates Wife After Suspected Affair
In another gruesome incident, a 28-year-old man in Bengaluru‘s Anekal locality hacked to death his 26-year-old wife after a suspected affair and surrendered at the police station with her chopped head.
The suspect, Shankar, had a rented house in Heelalige village with his wife Manasa. Shankar returned home unexpectedly on the evening of June 3 and, allegedly, caught Manasa in bed with another man. There was a violent fight, after which Manasa left temporarily.
Days later, in the midst of ongoing clashes, Shankar allegedly killed her in a rage, beheading her and taking the severed head to Suryanagar Police Station. The police sources indicated that the couple had a troubled marriage and are investigating whether there were previous complaints lodged.
The two cases sent shockwaves across the city and underscored the disastrous consequences of unresolved domestic tensions and abusive relationships. Authorities are calling for individuals to seek assistance in circumstances of domestic or relationship distress instead of resorting to violence.
