Bengaluru: In a swift investigation, Bengaluru Southwest police have arrested a 21-year-old youth for murdering a 61-year-old woman neighbour after eyeing her gold ornaments that he could dispose off for splurging on his online gaming addiction and the loans he had ran into.
The police have arrested the accused Gagan Rajegowda, 21 years, resident of Yallappa Layout, Behind Anjaneya Temple in Challaghatta. He is a native of Ganganahalli Village in Nagamangala in Mandya District.
On July 21st, at 12:33 pm, after receiving a complaint of body in a suitcase, a Hoysala patrol vehicle went to the Thimmappa Lake in Ramohalli and found the body of an unknown woman floating in a red suitcase on the left side of the lake.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the woman was aged between 60-65.
A case of murder was registered and the police initialky identified the deceased victim as Jayamma Boregowda who had gone missing in the case of Kumbalagod Police Station – complainant was her son, the police said.
A special team was formed to find the accused in the murder case.
The accused was then arrested based on technical evidence as Jayamma, on Juky 15th, had gone to Gagan Rajegowda’s house and had used his phone to call one of her relatives. Gagan Gowda was Jayamma’s neighbour, the police said.
According to police, Gagan Rajegowda was eyeing to rob Jayamma’s gold ornaments to fund his online gaming addictions by which he had ran into too many loans. “How much of loans he had taken is subject matter to investigation. Jayamma had on her, a 30 gm gold chain, a pair of earrings and a finger ring,” DCP South West Anita Haddannavar told NewsX.
In this case, all scientific evidence and CCTV footage related to the incident have been collected, and further investigation is ongoing.
