Bengaluru Rains: MP Urges Work-from-Home as IMD Forecasts More Downpour

BJP MP from Bengaluru Central PC Mohan, on Monday, called upon the city’s businesses, including Infosys, to consider work-from-home as heavy rain lashed the city and affected day-to-day life after waterlogging was seen in various localities.

Taking to platform X, BJP MP PC Mohan posted, “All companies in Bengaluru, including Infosys, must declare two days of work from home due to rains.”

Karnataka’s Bengaluru witnessed excessive waterlogging caused by heavy rain. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also raised an eyebrow over the issue.

DK Shivakumar Responds to the Rain Crisis in Bengaluru

“Deeply concerned by the havoc caused by relentless rains in Bengaluru. I’ve continuously been in touch with the concerned officers and closely monitored the situation. As always, I remain committed to Bengaluru – working around the clock to address challenges and ensure relief. I will personally visit the BBMP War Room and flood-affected areas to take stock on the ground. Let us be clear: the issues we face today are not new. They have been ignored for years, across governments and administrations. The only difference now is – we are working to solve them, not with temporary fixes, but with long-term, sustainable solutions. To my fellow Bengalureans – I am one among you. I understand your concerns, I share your frustration, and I assure you of my commitment to resolve them,” he said in a post on X.

Waterlogging Disrupts Daily Life in Bengaluru

Heavy rains paralyzed Bengaluru with its infrastructure trying to cope with the rain on Monday. Pictures of the Silk Board Metro Station depicted huge waterlogging. The Silk Board region, a busy traffic junction, was hit hard, inconveniencing commuters.

Shanti Nagar bus stands and Kanteerava Stadium were also affected. Traffic congestion in Bengaluru worsened because of waterlogging as well as many tree branches breaking and cars developing breakdowns.

Citizens felt frustrated and helpless, demanding urgent civic action to resolve the city’s infrastructure problem.

IMD Forecast and Government Action

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several areas in Karnataka, including Bengaluru. The forecast predicts more rain over the next two days, according to an ANI report.

On Monday, Karnataka’s home minister G Parameshwara mentioned that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), now replaced by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), is actively working to tackle the severe waterlogging in various parts of the city.

He explained that the main issue causing the clogging was the accumulation of leaves, paper, and other waste in specific spots on the road. This build-up is contributing to the waterlogging problem.

“There is a flood (waterlogging). That is why the opposition is criticising. BBMP should take all measures to correct the situation here, and it is being done… I have been observing it for the last two or three days, and leaves and papers are lying on the road. It all gets deposited in one place, BBMP is taking action,” the news agency quoted Parameshwara.

CM Siddaramaiah Visits Rain-Hit Areas; BJP Slams Congress

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah also took a trip to the rain-hit areas on Monday night and interacted with the rain-affected people, as well as the officials.

BJP attacked the Congress government of Karnataka for the rain situation, accusing it of failing to control the state.

“Bengaluru has been turned into Venice after just one spell of rain. The Congress’s apathy has ruined Silicon City. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have no vision for this global city other than using it as an ATM to fill their coffers,” said BJP leader Amit Malviya in a post on X.
