In a horrifying incident early Saturday, 26-year-old M. Shankar surrendered at Bengaluru’s Suryanagar police station, riding a scooter with his wife S. Manasa’s severed head on display. He confessed, “I have come to surrender. I killed my wife, and here is her head,” before police could even question him.
Shankar, an assistant manager at a battery factory in Bommanahalli, and his wife Manasa, a factory worker, shared a three-year-old daughter. Neighbours reported hearing a violent argument before the brutal act. Police say Shankar claimed the killing followed a fight over Manasa’s alleged affair with a colleague.
Affair Allegations, Family Turmoil, and Brutal Violence
According to investigators, Shankar returned home early on May 3 and allegedly caught Manasa with another man. The next day, she left home and stayed in a PG near her workplace, leaving their daughter with her parents in Hebbagodi. Police were alerted when Shankar filed a missing person report.
Officers found Manasa at her PG and escorted her back to Shankar’s home. That evening, they reportedly fought again, leading Shankar to retrieve a butcher’s knife and decapitate her.
A neighbour recounted, “They heard Shankar and Manasa fighting and later attacking each other. Shankar took the butcher’s knife from the kitchen and severed her head. He sat near the beheaded body for some time and then decided to ride to the police station.”
Shankar then calmly rode to Suryanagar station at around 1 a.m., quietly stopping his gearless scooter just outside. He made his chilling admission to on-duty constables while the severed head lay on the mat beside him.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Shankar was quickly arrested by the police, and they also recovered the murder weapon. The evidence is under forensic review, and the CCTV footage surrounding the incident is also being looked at. Officials are also trying to ensure the safety of the couple’s young daughter. The case is being treated with high priority.
