Kapil Sharma's restaurant, Kap's Cafe in Surrey, became the target of a shooting for the third time on Thursday, marking a severe escalation in a pattern of gang-related intimidation. Multiple shots were fired outside the eatery, and a video of the incident quickly went viral online. The attack was followed by a social media post from a person claiming affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who issued a direct threat not just to the comedian, but to the entire Bollywood film industry.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Kulvir Sidhu, also known as Goldy Dhillon, who is said to be a part of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In a post written in Punjabi, he explicitly stated, "the responsibility for it is taken by me, Kulvir Sidhu, and Goldy Dhillon." The post was a clear and public admission of involvement, moving the incident from a random act of violence to a deliberate message from an organized criminal group. This blatant assertion has raised more questions about the gang's scope and openness.

The gang's message extended far beyond Kapil Sharma, issuing a blanket threat to Bollywood at large. The social media post contained a stark warning for anyone in the industry who speaks against religion. It stated, "Anyone in Bollywood who speaks against religion should also be prepared — a bullet can come from anywhere, anytime." This is a major step up, turning a targeted extortion campaign into a wider danger to the freedom of expression of an entire industry, raising the possibility of widespread and unpredictable violent retaliation.
This recent shooting is not an isolated event but part of a sustained campaign of terror. This was the third attack on Kap's Cafe in a matter of months. The first incident occurred in July, when around 25 rounds were fired while staff were still inside the building. After the restaurant reopened, it was targeted again on August 7. Following that second attack, the gang had similarly taken to social media, claiming it was a "warning to Kapil for not responding to their calls," and ominously threatening that the "next action will be taken soon in Mumbai."

According to their own statements, the gang's motives appear to be a mix of financial extortion and ideological enforcement. In their latest post, the gang said they have no issue with the public but warned “those involved in illegal work or who don’t pay after taking money.” This points to a possible extortion scheme. Along with their recent threat to Bollywood figures who “speak against religion,” the gang appears to be acting as both a money-driven enforcer and a so-called moral guardian—using fear and violence to assert control.
