Bangladeshi Woman Arrested In Tripura For Alleged Involvement In Human Trafficking

Police reported the arrest of a Bangladeshi woman for her suspected involvement in human trafficking in Charipara village, in West Tripura. The accused, Khadija Begum, 36, hails from Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh.

According to the police, “A Bangladeshi woman named Khadija Begum was arrested by the GRP (Government Railway Police) from the Charipara area in a joint operation with BSF (Border Security Force) Unit 42 and Amtali Police Station on Saturday afternoon.” The authorities detained her, acting on a tip-off. Khadija Begum is set to appear before the Agartala court for further legal proceedings.

On Thursday, local law enforcement and the Border Security Force carried out a joint operation at Agartala Railway Station based on a tip-off about suspected illegal activities. They arrested 10 people, including eight Bangladeshi nationals. The operation was in response to reports of cross-border human trafficking. The individuals were apprehended while preparing to board a train, allegedly intending to cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally.

The arrested individuals have been detained at the local police station for further interrogation. Authorities have indicated plans to collaborate with Bangladeshi officials to gather more information about the case and possibly repatriate the Bangladeshi nationals. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to address illegal cross-border activities and human trafficking in the region.
