B Srinivasan Appointed New NSG Director General By Centre

On Tuesday, the Centre announced the appointment of B Srinivasan, a 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Bihar cadre, as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Srinivasan will serve in this role until August 31, 2027, the date of his superannuation.

Successor to Nalin Prabhat

Srinivasan succeeds Nalin Prabhat, who has been appointed as the Special Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir. Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh, had his tenure as NSG Director General curtailed to facilitate his move to the new role. Prabhat’s extensive career includes significant achievements, such as multiple Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak.

Background of B Srinivasan

B Srinivasan brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His career includes notable roles in counter-insurgency operations and leadership within the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Srinivasan previously led the Greyhounds, an elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh, and has held key positions as Inspector General of Operations and Additional Director General in the Kashmir region.

Interim Leadership

Following Nalin Prabhat’s departure, Anish Dayal Singh, the Director General of the CRPF, was assigned additional charge of the NSG. Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, will hold this position until Srinivasan assumes his role or further orders are issued.
