Amidst Floods wreaking havoc in the northeastern state of Assam, around 17 wild animals including rhino calf and hog deer submerged due to floods at Kaziranga National Park, announced forest officials.
While 72 animals were saved by forest establishment from national park. As per the officials, 32 wild animals are undergoing treatment, while 25 have been discharged.
Overall, the flood situation in Assam’s Kaziranga national park continues to remain dire, as 173 forest camps are affected by flooding.
Talking about animal’s situation, Kaziranga field director Sonali Ghosh revealed, ‘The park authorities and forest department have rescued 55 Hog Deer, two otters (infants), two Sambar, two Scops Owls, one rhino calf, one Indian Hare, one Jungle cat, etc.’
Meanwhile, around 16.25 lakh people from 29 districts are critically affected by the second wave of flood.
The following affected districts are Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, South Salmara, Dhubri, Jorhat, Charaideo, Hojai, Karimganj, Sivasagar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Darang, Biswanath, Cachar, Kamrup (M), Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Karbi Anglong West, Majuli.
Around 3.86 lakh people have taken shelter in 515 relief camps and distribution centres established by administration in 24 flood-affected districts. As per ASDMA, around 11,20,165 animals are affected by floods.
