Andhra Pradesh TDP Leader Confirms Continuation Of Muslim Reservation

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies, BJP and Jana Sena, are preparing to assume power in Andhra Pradesh following a resounding victory in the state assembly elections. K Ravindra Kumar, a TDP leader, confirmed on Friday that the existing reservation for Muslims in the state will be upheld. “We are committed to maintaining the current system without any issues,” Kumar stated during an interview with ANI.

Previously, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu also reaffirmed the party’s stance on preserving the Muslim quota, diverging from BJP’s position against religious-based reservations. A gathering of TDP MPs was convened at former TDP MP Jayadev Galla’s residence in Delhi earlier that day. Simultaneously, a crucial meeting of newly elected MPs from the NDA was held in the central hall of Parliament.

When asked about presenting demands at the meeting, TDP’s Kumar explained, “Today is not the appropriate time for discussing demands; we are part of the NDA, and demands are not a current concern. Our collaboration with the Centre encompasses various aspects, including assistance, schemes, Centre-State cooperation, and the AP Reorganisation Act.”

“Several ongoing processes are crucial, with Andhra Pradesh’s reconstruction taking precedence as it has regressed by 25 years,” he emphasized. Earlier this week, NDA party leaders elected Narendra Modi as their leader during a Delhi alliance meeting. Sources indicate that Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on June 9.
