The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) announced a Rs 2 per litre increase in the price of Amul milk across all variants, effective from Monday. This decision stems from the rise in operational and production costs. Consequently, the price of Amul milk pouches will rise by Rs 2 per litre nationwide.
Jayen Mehta, MD of GCMMF, confirmed the price hike, stating that the last adjustment occurred in February 2023. The increase aims to offset the heightened production expenses, ensuring fair compensation for farmers.
Following the hike, revised prices for variants like 500 ml Amul buffalo milk, Amul Gold milk, and Amul Shakti milk will be Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively. Despite the increment, the rise in maximum retail price (MRP) remains within the 3-4% range, notably lower than average food inflation.
GCMMF emphasized that since February 2023, there had been no price adjustment for fresh pouch milk in significant markets. The decision reflects the ongoing challenge of rising operational and production costs within the milk industry.
GCMMF’s policy ensures that nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and its derivatives goes to milk producers. This revision aims to sustain favorable milk prices for producers, thereby stimulating increased milk production.
