Amritsar on Red Alert as India Accuses Pakistan of Ceasefire Violation

Amritsar authorities have declared a red alert amid rising tension between India and Pakistan. The District Collector urged people to stay indoors and avoid windows for their safety.

Collector Asks Residents to Stay Inside

On Sunday, the Amritsar District Collector issued a strong warning. He said, “We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don’t panic.”

Early Morning Warning

Earlier, at 4:39 am, the Collector had already asked people to keep lights off and stay away from open areas like balconies, terraces, and roads.

In the statement, he said, “By way of abundant caution, please remain indoors with lights off and move away from windows. Please do not move out on road, balcony or terrace. Don’t panic. We will let you know when we can resume normal activities.”

India Blames Pakistan for Ceasefire Breach

Meanwhile, India accused Pakistan of breaking a ceasefire agreement. Both countries’ military leaders—Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs)—had agreed to stop firing and military action earlier that day. However, India said Pakistan violated the deal.

Indian Army Retaliates

As a result, the Indian Army took strong action. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said India viewed the violation seriously. He explained, “This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations and we take very very serious note of these violations.”

India Demands Responsible Action from Pakistan

Furthermore, Misri called on Pakistan to act with seriousness. He urged them to take steps to fix the situation and prevent further violations.

He said, “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility. The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control.”
