Amit Shah: Congress neglected poor for 70 years

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led government during a ‘Vijay Sankalp Sammelan’ of BJP workers in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, where he also kickstarted the campaign for the upcoming state assembly polls. In his speech, Shah accused the Congress of not taking adequate measures to uplift the poor during its 70-year rule in the country.
Highlighting the achievements of the current BJP-led government, Shah referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the “messiah of the poor” due to the extensive welfare programs aimed at addressing the needs of the underprivileged. He urged BJP workers to secure a victory in all 29 Lok Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh in the next general elections, aiming to re-elect Narendra Modi as India’s Prime Minister.
Praising the organisational strength of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Shah credited the people of the state for contributing significantly to the party’s success in the past elections. He recalled that in the 2014 general elections, the BJP won 27 out of the 29 Lok Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh, followed by an impressive 28 seats in the 2019 elections. Shah emphasised that the upcoming 2024 elections should see the BJP winning all 29 seats, as a testament to the public’s support for Narendra Modi.
Taking a swipe at the Congress party, Shah accused it of neglecting the poor and failing to implement effective measures to improve their socio-economic conditions during its long reign. He further pointed out that the Congress had nurtured Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir for 70 years, which was eventually abrogated under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Shah also praised the BJP’s response to security challenges during the UPA regime from 2004 to 2014, highlighting the successful surgical strikes conducted by the party in response to terrorist attacks carried out by Pakistani militants on Indian soil.
Turning the focus to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Union Home Minister commended PM Modi for his leadership in managing the crisis and ensuring the vaccination of a vast population of 130 crore people in India.
Shah concluded by lauding the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh for transforming the state from its previously labelled “BIMARU” status to a developed state, implying significant progress under the BJP’s governance compared to the previous Congress administration.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of the Madhya Pradesh state assembly polls scheduled for November, Amit Shah’s fiery rhetoric and the party’s promises to uplift the poor and continue developmental initiatives seem to be setting the stage for a highly contested electoral battle. It remains to be seen how the voters respond to these claims and whether the BJP can retain its hold on power in the state.
