Aizawl Tragedy: 10 Dead, Ongoing Search For Missing

A stone quarry collapsed in the southern outskirts of Aizawl amid heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning, killing ten and several individuals were injured, while many went missing.

The incident took place around 6 am in an area situated between Melthem and Hlimen, near Aizawl.

Authorities say that a rescue operation is underway for those trapped beneath the debris, but the persistent rains are hindering the operation.

The heavy rainfall caused landslides in many parts of the state, as reported by the officials.

A landslide occurred on Highway 6 at Hunthar which has Mizoram’s capital from the rest of the country. Additionally, several intra-state highways have been affected by the landslides.

Meanwhile, authorities as a precautionary measure announced that all schools will be closed in the state till further orders.
