‘LORROS’ Installed Along India-Pakistan Border to Prevent Infiltration: BSF

Authorities have identified potential infiltration hotspots along the India-Pakistan border and have implemented advanced measures, including the installation of cutting-edge sensors, to monitor and prevent unauthorized access, according to Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) Daljeet Singh Chaudhary.

Speaking at the annual press meet on Friday, the BSF chief detailed the measures undertaken to bolster border security. “Floodlights and cameras have been installed, along with the installation of the Long-Range Reconnaissance and Observation System (LORROS) to ensure effective long-range surveillance,” Chaudhary stated.

He added that patrolling activities are in full swing, with ambushes being strategically set up to intercept potential threats. “Intelligence sources play a key role in executing specific operations aimed at maintaining security. The state government and the Army are working in close coordination to ensure that no infiltration occurs,” he said.

The BSF DG emphasised that personnel are undergoing specialised training and have been meticulously deployed across critical areas with strict instructions to prevent any form of infiltration.

However, he clarified that the data regarding infiltration attempts remain largely based on estimates. “In case any infiltration incident occurs, it becomes apparent that there may have been infiltration in that area. However, there is no definite estimate in this regard,” Chaudhary noted.

The statement comes against the backdrop of several terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in recent months, coupled with reports of fresh infiltration from Pakistan. Cross-border infiltration remains a persistent challenge, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders, where hostile terrain and geopolitical tensions exacerbate the situation.

Over the past years, such infiltration attempts have often been linked to cross-border terrorism aimed at destabilizing peace and security in sensitive regions.

Highlighting BSF’s efforts, the DG revealed that personnel have successfully neutralised threats posed by drones. “Our personnel have shot down 257 drones on the Western Border till November 30 this year, compared to just 10 last year,” Chaudhary informed.

The BSF, mandated to guard the 3,323-km-long India-Pakistan border, continues to adopt advanced technology and tactical operations to address evolving security challenges and maintain the sovereignty of the nation.
