Mau’s Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari was released from Kasganj district jail on Friday after he obtained interim bail from the Supreme Court under the Gangster Act. Jail Superintendent Vijay Vikram Singh has confirmed that he was released at 2 pm, with tight security arrangements during the process. After his release, Abbas, along with his family, left for Lucknow.

Spent Over Two Years in Jail

Abbas, the younger son of Bahubali chief Mukhtar Ansari, had spent over two years in jail. He was kept in the high-security barrack of the prison, where he too behaved in a tranquil manner. He spent most of his time reading religious scriptures and making prayers. On learning about his release, he “thanked Allah.”

Bail Granted After Court Order

The Supreme Court released Abbas on bail on March 7 on certain conditions. However, it took about 15 days for the court order to be presented at Kasganj jail, resulting in his eventual release. The news is a big moment of relief for Mukhtar Ansari’s family prior to Eid.

ED’s Case Against Abbas

Abbas was charged with being involved in illicit financial operations and criminal transactions. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a case against him under the Money Laundering and Gangster Act. He had been incarcerated since his arrest in November 2022.
