77th Army Day: Women Agniveers, Advanced Tech, Nepal Band Steal the Show

The Army Day Parade, held to commemorate General KM Cariappa’s appointment as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949, marks India’s military sovereignty post-independence. This year’s parade at BEG Centre, Khadki, see some firsts, celebrating the rich military heritage of Pune as home to the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command Headquarters.

For the first time, the prestigious Army Day Parade featured the Nepal Army Band as the only foreign contingent. The Nepalese contingent continues the tradition of close military ties between India and Nepal.

Women Agniveers and Modern Contingents

The Women Agniveer Contingent from the Corps of Military Police lead the parade. This represents the increasing role of women in the Indian Army. Traditional and modern contingents, including the Army Service Corps Horse Contingent and units from Maratha Regimental Centre, Artillery Centre Nashik, and others, will display India’s military diversity.

The NCC Girls Contingent from Maharashtra would symbolize the spirit of youth leadership, exemplifying the National Cadet Corps’s role since 1948 in fostering discipline and patriotism.

Cutting-Edge Technology on Display

A Mounted Contingent put on display cutting-edge machinery, including the K-9 Vajra howitzer, BMP-2 Sarath combat vehicle, and T-90 tanks. This spoke of India’s progress in defense manufacturing in the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ scheme, keeping in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’.

Technological advancements was the center of attention. Tableaus presented AI-driven systems, drone swarms, cybersecurity innovations, and autonomous vehicles such as the Robotic Mule and Swathi Weapon Locating Radar, underlining modernization and indigenous capabilities.

Inspiring Tableaus and Public Interaction

Tableaus showcase efforts like Mission Olympics of the Indian Army, achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions and contributions of the veterans. In addition, military assets like the Sarvatra Bridging System, Drone Jammers, Mobile Communication Nodes, etc., was on display.

Ties between Army and Citizens Stronger

Hosting the parade in Pune signifies that the city will always remain a part of India’s defense forces. Citizens get a great opportunity to celebrate the Army’s power, unity, and progressive vision.
