Amidst an intensifying heatwave in Rajasthan, Minister Kirodi Lal Meena has issued a stern warning, urging the public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary exposure to the blistering sun.
Speaking to ANI, Meena emphasized the importance of preventive measures, urging individuals to refrain from venturing out in the scorching heat unless absolutely necessary. He highlighted the tragic fatalities attributed to the heatwave and underscored the need for heightened awareness and precautionary measures.
Meena further revealed that post-mortem examinations conducted on six deceased individuals confirmed the heatwave as the cause of their untimely demise.
Meanwhile, IMD reported Phalodi in Rajasthan registering a maximum temperature of 49.4°C on May 27, 2024, intensifying concerns over the searing heatwave gripping the region.
Forecasting ongoing harsh conditions, Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, cautioned that significant relief from the intense heatwave is unlikely until May 29. He highlighted the unprecedented temperature spikes, with Phalodi crossing the 50-degree Celsius mark and Jaisalmer and Barmer witnessing a notable surge in nighttime temperatures.
Sharma further noted that while some parts of Eastern Rajasthan may experience a slight decrease in maximum temperatures from May 29, Western Rajasthan may witness a similar trend from May 30 onwards. However, he anticipates temperatures to gradually return to normal levels by the first week of June.
The scorching heatwave isn’t confined to Rajasthan alone, with Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, parts of Madhya Pradesh, and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh also experiencing oppressive heatwave conditions.
As the heatwave persists, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the soaring temperatures on public health and safety.
