30 Students Hospitalized After Suspected Food Poisoning Incident In Pune

Around 30 students from a school in Pune, Maharashtra, were hospitalized on Thursday due to suspected food poisoning. After receiving primary treatment, the students were discharged, according to officials.

The incident occurred after the school served sandwiches for breakfast to approximately 350 students from classes 5 to 7.

“After eating the sandwiches, some students began vomiting and fell ill. All hospitalized students are in stable condition and are out of danger,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar, speaking to ANI.

“Most of the students were discharged by evening,” he added.

Dr. Dhananjay Patil from Chetna Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad reported that around 30 students were admitted for treatment by 3 PM on Thursday.

“Initially, about 18 students were brought in at 1 PM. They were experiencing dizziness, stomach pain, and vomiting. By 3 PM, a total of 30 students had been admitted, all of whom were discharged after treatment,” he said.

When questioned about the cause of the suspected food poisoning, Dr. Patil mentioned, “It may be due to the sandwiches served during breakfast at the school.”

This is the second such incident in the region in recent days. On October 1, 38 students from Kalwa Sahyadri School in Thane were hospitalized after consuming khichdi at the school, leading to a case of food poisoning. The affected students were in the 5th and 6th grades.
