Nishad Kumar in the men’s t 47 category high jump and Preeti Pal in the women’s t 35 200m claimed the first two medals for India at the World Para Athletics in Kobe on Sunday.

Nishad Kumar with an incredible season best mark of 1.99 m claimed the silver medal behind Robert Townsend who won gold with a 2.05 m effort. Preeti Pal claimed a bronze in the women’s t 35 200 m finishing behind two Chinese athletes.

Earlier in the morning, 20-year-old Deepti jeevanji made an impressive debut at the World Para Athletics winning the third heat in women’s t 20 400m. She clocked 56.18 and set a new Asian record. Deepti had won a gold at the Asian Para Games in 2023.

In the men’s f 40 shot putt final, Ravi Rangoli of India finished 6th with a throw of 9.75 m.
Praveen Kumar narrowly missed on claiming a medal when he failed to jump 2.01 m.

Earlier in the morning, Rakshita Raju ran a very brave race in the women’s t 11 1500 m finishing 5th in a personal best time of 5 minutes 16.13 seconds.

In the evening session, the most promising display came from Preeti Pal who finished first in the women’s t 35 200 m in a personal best time of 30.80 second in heats.
