The members of the Indian cricket team reached Ahmedabad on Monday to join the team bio-bubble ahead of the upcoming limited-overs series against West Indies. All players entered the bio bubble between Sunday and Monday. “They will undergo a three-day quarantine,” a BCCI official said.
Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had posted a photo of his departure for Ahmedabad on Saturday. He was sitting in the aircraft alongside Shikhar Dhawan. The series will be the first for Rohit Sharma as ODI captain of the side. He could not travel to South Africa due to a hamstring injury.
Former captain Virat Kohli is part of both the ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies series. Vice-captain KL Rahul will be available for only the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series, starting February 6 in Ahmedabad, the BCCI said.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested from both the series while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav returns to the ODI squad. Washington Sundar, who missed the South Africa ODIs after contracting Covid-19, is part of both the squads for the home series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been dropped from the ODI squad after an underwhelming performance in the 3-match in South Africa earlier this month. Senior spinner R Ashwin is reportedly unavailable for the West Indies series due to injury concerns.
Ravi Bishnoi, who played for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, got a maiden call-up for both ODIs and T20Is. Bishnoi was picked by Lucknow Super Giants, the new franchise owned by the RSPG Group, for IPL 2022. Deepak Hooda, who has done well in the domestic season, gets an ODI call-up.
