INDIA SEES 106 COVID DEATHS IN 24 HOURS

There were 15,510 fresh cases; number of recoveries surge to 1,07,86,457.

India on Monday expanded the nationwide vaccination against coronavirus, opening registrations for people above 60 years and those aged 45 in the second phase of the inoculation drive which began on 16 January. With 15,510 fresh cases, India’s Covid-19 tally has climbed to 1,11,12,241, while the number of recoveries has surged to 1,07,86,457 on Monday. The death count due to the viral disease has gone up to 1,57,157 in the country with 106 more fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tweeted, “I took first dose of coronavirus vaccine at Delhi’s premier All India Institutes of Medical Sciences.” Home minister Amit Shah was today administered the first dose of Covid vaccine by Medanta doctors. Citizens will be able to register and book an appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the Co-WIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.

Delhi reported 175 new Covid-19 cases and one death today, taking the toll of coronavirus cases to 6,39,46 and 10,911 fatalities so far. The recoveries in the city mounted to 6,27,149 cases, whereas the active no of cases remain 1,404.

Maharashtra reported 6,397 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The 6,397 new infections have taken the state’s tally of total cases to 21,61,467, including 77,618 active cases. It has registered 5,754 recoveries in the last 24 hours which have taken the total number of cured cases in the state to 20,30,458.

Kerala reported 1,938 new Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths on Monday, taking the infection count to 10,61,690 and the death toll to 4,210. Meanwhile, 3,475 people recuperated from the disease on Monday, taking the total cured in the state to 10,08,972. There are 2,07,915 people under observation in the state out of which 7,159 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.

Arunachal Pradesh remained a coronavirus-free state for the second consecutive day, as no positive case was reported in the past 24 hours on Monday. The total caseload remained at 16,836, while the number of recoveries stood at 16,780. So far, 56 people have died due to the contagion. Arunachal Pradesh’s recovery rate and positivity rate are at 99.66% and zero per cent, respectively.

Telangana recorded 116 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally to 2,98,923, while no fresh fatality was reported and the death toll stood at 1,634. The cumulative number of recoveries was 2,95,387. The total number of active cases was 1,902 today.
