India is providing consular and legal assistance to eight former Indian Navy personnel detained in Qatar as part of the ongoing legal process, and it is also working with the Gulf country’s authorities.
Responding to questions during the weekly media briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated that the next day of hearing in the court case involving the eight Indians is scheduled for early May.
“This is now being litigated. Let me emphasise that we are making every effort to assist these detained Indians, and we are also providing consular and legal assistance as part of the ongoing legal process “Bagchi stated.
“We are also engaged with the Qatari authorities. Our embassy in Doha continues to remain in touch with the families. The next day of the hearing is in early May. We are trying to see what can be done before that in connection with that hearing,” he added.
In response to another question, he stated that the charges against them have not been “unsealed. It has not yet been made public. Perhaps there will be… as the legal process progresses,” Bagchi stated.
The eight former Navy officials were employed by a private company. They were apprehended in Doha in October of last year.
